The McMillan Homestead

Most builders can show you their work. We can show you where we live it. The McMillan Homestead is our own hand-designed, self-sustainable home on two-plus acres of biodiverse working farm in Davidson, North Carolina, just minutes from the historic town center.

It is our headquarters, our proving ground, and the truest expression of everything McMillan Builders stands for. When you visit, you do not see a showroom. You see a home we designed, built, and live in every day, and you understand exactly how we will approach yours.

Built to Live In Forever

At the heart of who we are is the McMillan Homestead, our own hand-designed, self-sustainable home set on two acres in Davidson. It is a 1900s-style farmhouse we designed and built ourselves, surrounded by gardens, an orchard, and a certified North Carolina wildlife preserve along a state scenic byway.

The Homestead is more than where we live and work. It is the truest expression of how we think about home: built with intention, rooted in nature, and made to last for generations. The same craft, care, and building science we poured into our own home shapes every project we take on.

Building Science You Can Live In

The Homestead is also a testament to our building science. It is a healthy, high-performing, self-sustainable home, built with the same attention to moisture management, durability, and sustainability that protects every home we build. It is designed to last for generations, not just to look good on day one. This is the difference between putting finishes on a house and truly building one, and it is a difference you can feel the moment you walk through the door.
