My wife and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, and decided to build a custom home in Lake Norman, N. Carolina, where we have vacationed for the past 20 years. Living across the country could have made this process overwhelming, but McMillan Builders has made the entire process an enjoyable and exciting experience. From the very beginning, they have gone above and beyond to communicate with us every step of the way. Since we live clear across the country, communication and trust were incredibly important to us. The McMillan team has consistently kept us informed, listened to our ideas, and have worked closely with us each step of the way. Mike McMillan has nearly 30 years of experience building, and knows all of the trades, who to call, and how to simply get things done. He also has seen so much from building all of these years. He comes up with ideas from other projects he has worked on, that the normal homeowner would not normally think of. Kathleen McMillan is wonderful from an administrative standpoint, coordinating efforts and keeping Buildertrend updated for us so we always have current information. Amelia McMillan is simply talented, creative and ingenious wrapped in one, bringing both the architectural design and psychological vision alive in the design of the house. Watching them work together as at team, and as a family, is refreshing in todays world of corporate run entities. McMillan Builders also coordinated exceptionally well with engineers and the various trades involved in the project, making what could have been a complicated process feel organized and smooth. Along the way, they've suggested creative design ideas and practical solutions that we never would have considered, many of which have actually saved us money without sacrificing quality or style. For example, we were all "gung ho" about building our driveway straight from the street to our house. Mike recommended coming in from the side of the house (where there is an existing Right of Way) and then traversing the property. This would end up saving thousands of dollars on grading and retention walls. This is just one of several examples that they were able to come up that we would not have otherwise thought of. Their professionalism, honesty, attention to detail, and hard work have exceeded our expectations.
